A New Alzheimer’s Trigger May Have Just Been Discovered

Scientists at the University of California, Riverside have proposed a new explanation for how Alzheimer’s disease may begin inside neurons. Their study suggests amyloid beta could interfere directly with tau, preventing it from performing a job essential to healthy brain-cell function.

The finding does not establish a definitive cause of Alzheimer’s or introduce a treatment ready for patients. It is a laboratory-supported biological model that could connect two major features of the disease and redirect future research if confirmed.
