The phrase “a coffin fell from the sky” sounds almost impossible, but the real story is stranger in a quieter way. In 1899, near the village of Bagicz in Poland, coastal erosion caused a coffin made from a hollowed-out oak tree to fall from a cliff near the Baltic Sea. Inside, archaeologists found the well-preserved skeleton of a woman buried with objects that immediately made the discovery feel unusual.
