The Spanish national team ascended to the throne of world football after winning the 2026 World Cup title, following its valuable 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final match held on Sunday evening, July 19, at MetLife Stadium in the New York–New Jersey area of the United States, adding a new achievement to its impressive record.

According to sports reports, the final match witnessed strong competition between the two teams, as tactical calculations and defensive caution dominated the course of regular time, ending in a goalless draw with neither side able to find the net, despite chances created by both teams.

Argentina suffered a major blow in the final moments of regular time, after the referee showed midfielder Enzo Fernández a second yellow card during stoppage time, sending him off the pitch.

This red card forced La Albiceleste to play the two extra periods with ten men, giving Spain a numerical advantage that it exploited in the decisive minutes.

The only goal of the match came in the second minute of the second extra period, when substitute striker Ferran Torres capitalized on one of Spain’s attacks, sending the ball into the Argentine net and giving his country a precious goal that secured the title amid great joy from the players, coaching staff, and Spanish fans.

Reports said that with this victory, Spain lifted the World Cup for the second time in its history, after first winning the title in the 2010 edition hosted by South Africa, confirming its return to the summit of world football after years of striving to regain its glory.

On the other hand, Argentina failed to retain the title it won at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and also missed the chance to win the World Cup for the fourth time in its history, having previously won the tournament in 1978, 1986, and 2022.

In the battle for third place, England successfully finished the tournament with the bronze medal after defeating France 6-4 in an exciting match held one day before the final.
