Europe’s solar boom should sound like a clean-energy success story. Panels are producing more electricity than ever, fossil-fuel dependence is falling, and in some moments the continent has more green power available than demand can absorb.
But that success has exposed a different problem. Europe is now producing solar power faster than its grids, storage systems, and electricity markets can handle. The result is curtailment: clean electricity being switched off, wasted, or priced below zero because it cannot reach the right place at the right time.
