Tyrosine, an amino acid sold in supplements marketed for focus, alertness and mood support, has been associated with shorter lifespans in men. Researchers reached the finding after analysing health and genetic information from more than 270,000 UK Biobank participants.

The study does not prove that taking an L-tyrosine supplement causes early death. It measured circulating tyrosine and genetically predicted lifelong exposure, not supplement brands, dosages or long-term use by consumers.
