A cat repeatedly entering the litter tray may look constipated, unsettled, or simply fussy. However, UK veterinarian Dr Alex Crow has warned that this behaviour can indicate urinary disease—and, in male cats, a potentially fatal urethral obstruction.
The danger applies specifically when urine cannot leave the bladder, not to every urinary problem. A complete blockage can rapidly disrupt kidney function and electrolyte balance, so owners should treat an inability to urinate as an immediate veterinary emergency.
