Knee osteoarthritis can leave patients trapped between treatments that no longer control their symptoms and joint replacement surgery they cannot or do not want to undergo. A new study examines a minimally invasive procedure designed to occupy that difficult middle ground.

Researchers at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin followed nearly 200 patients after genicular artery embolization using rapidly dissolving particles. The results, published in Radiology in June 2026, showed substantial improvements lasting 12 months, although the observational design means the treatment still requires stronger controlled evidence.
