The first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season arrived quickly, turning a Gulf Coast disturbance into Tropical Storm Arthur and immediately shifting attention from wind speed to flooding. The system formed near the Texas coast, but its main threat was never expected to be a long-lived hurricane-style track.

By the latest National Hurricane Center update, Arthur had already weakened into a post-tropical low near the upper Texas coast. Its remnants were forecast to move inland across the southeastern United States, carrying heavy rain, flash-flood risk, rough surf, and isolated tornado potential through the end of the week.
