Cutting the grass is one of the most ordinary weekend jobs in Britain, but it can become a legal problem if the noise crosses the line into nuisance. The warning does not mean people are automatically fined for mowing their lawns, and there is no single UK-wide ban on using a mower at a specific hour.
The risk comes from noise nuisance rules, especially when loud garden work happens at unreasonable times or continues after a council has taken action. UK government guidance says councils must investigate noise that could count as a statutory nuisance, and if they agree it is happening or likely to happen, they can serve an abatement notice requiring the noise to stop or be restricted.
