Cat Owners in England Given June Deadline Under New Law

Cat owners in England are being reminded that microchipping is no longer optional. The key deadline was June 10, 2024, when new rules came into force requiring pet cats to be microchipped and registered before they reach 20 weeks old.

The law is still active, and the risk has not disappeared for owners who missed the original deadline or failed to update their details. GOV.UK says owners can be fined up to £500 if their cat is not microchipped or not registered on an approved database when required.
