UK Pet Owners Given Update as Government Sets June 29 Date

UK animal lovers have been given a fresh parliamentary date after a petition calling for tougher action against animal abusers passed the threshold for debate. The petition asks for a public register of people convicted of animal abuse and an automatic lifetime ban on ownership for anyone convicted of animal neglect or cruelty.

The Government has already rejected both requests in its official response, but MPs will now debate the petition on June 29, 2026. The issue has drawn more than 229,000 signatures and remains open until September 12, keeping pressure on ministers over repeat cruelty and animal protection.
