New Energy Drink Rule in England Hailed a ‘Huge Win for Health’

Children under 16 in England are set to lose the legal ability to buy high-caffeine energy drinks under government plans covering products such as Red Bull, Monster and Prime Energy. The British Dietetic Association described the proposed restriction as a “huge win” after years of campaigning.

Despite reports describing it as a new rule, the restriction is not yet operating nationwide. The consultation has closed, but the government must still publish its final response, regulations and implementation date before voluntary shop policies become a statutory ban.
