Space Lasers Reveal How Venezuela’s Twin Quakes Warped the Earth’s Crust

Earthquakes can transform a landscape in seconds, but much of that movement is too subtle or widespread to recognise from the ground. After Venezuela’s destructive June 2026 earthquake sequence, satellites captured the deformation from hundreds of kilometres above Earth.

The resulting map does not simply show damaged cities. It records changes in the distance between the satellite and the surface, revealing where the crust moved and how closely that movement followed one of northern Venezuela’s major fault systems.
