Families buying school clothing for the new academic year will encounter a major change from September 2026. State-funded schools across England must reduce the number of compulsory branded uniform items they demand from pupils.
The reform is designed to stop parents being locked into expensive specialist suppliers for numerous logo-bearing garments. Schools can still preserve their colours and identity, but the new legal cap changes what they can insist families purchase.
