Parents are being urged to reconsider how publicly they share photographs of their children after UK crime and online-safety organisations identified a rapid rise in AI-generated sexual abuse material created from ordinary images found online.

The National Crime Agency and Internet Watch Foundation have not demanded that families stop sharing every picture. Their July 2026 guidance instead warns that public posts can be copied, manipulated and distributed without either the child or parent ever knowing.
