Liverpool FC Eyes Minority Stake Deal With Indian Investors

Reports have revealed that Liverpool FC could witness changes in its ownership structure, after its American owners entered negotiations with a group of Indian investors to sell a minority stake in the club, in a deal that may reflect the high valuation the Reds have reached in recent years.

Liverpool FC approaches a massive investment deal with Indian investors

According to reports, the negotiations include several prominent investors in India, including the Mittal family, known for their global investments. At the same time, the club"s value is estimated at over $6 billion, making it one of the most valuable clubs in the world.

Fenway Sports Group, the club"s owner, confirmed the validity of these negotiations in an official statement, explaining that an investment alliance led and managed by businessman Amit Bhatia has expressed formal interest in investing in Liverpool by purchasing a minority stake, without this involving relinquishing managerial control or selling the club entirely.

Fenway Group had acquired Liverpool in 2010 for around £300 million (equivalent to approximately $400 million at the time), before succeeding in significantly increasing the club"s market value thanks to the sports and commercial investments it implemented over the past years.

The American group"s ownership period witnessed a radical transformation in the team"s results, as Liverpool returned to compete strongly for domestic and continental titles under the leadership of German manager Jurgen Klopp, who brought the team back to the podium after long years of absence.

The club won the UEFA Champions League title for the sixth time in its history in 2019, before being crowned the following year with the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years, ending one of the longest waiting periods in the club"s history.

The team also continued its success by adding its twentieth English league title last season, equaling the record of its traditional rival, Manchester United, in the number of times winning the championship.

The reports pointed out that the current negotiations reflect Fenway Sports Group"s desire to attract a new investment partner to help support future growth plans, especially in light of the continuous rise in the value of major clubs and increased economic competition within European football, while simultaneously maintaining managerial control of the club and not relinquishing its full ownership.
