Taking Atorvastatin? NHS Says Call 111 Over These ‘Serious’ Side Effects

Atorvastatin is widely prescribed to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes. Most people take it without serious problems, and common side effects are generally mild or manageable.

However, the NHS warns that rare complications can affect the liver, pancreas, muscles or immune system. Anyone taking atorvastatin who believes they are experiencing a serious reaction should contact NHS 111, although life-threatening symptoms require 999 instead.
